Anteater Friends and Teammates. UCI Rowing is headed back to the Crew Classic this year after some years' hiatus. It's too much of a spectacle and so much fun for the fans not to attend.
The men's team is bringing a 1V, 2V, 1N and 2N. Yes, UCI is sporting a 2V again after some hard times in last few years. The boat is half novice but are spirited and learning fast. They'll be facing brutal opposition but are game to race.
The women are racing a 1V, and ta 2V in the varsity event, plus a 1N. I don't know the last time the women raced a 2V, only 2 years ago was the first time the women raced a 1v at ACRA.
None of us on either side of the boathouse are showing championship speed yet but have been working hard at base and speed will improve during the season.
UCI has a hospitality tent, please come by. If you would like to help stock the tent, please contact Scott and Jennifer Burnham at [email protected].

California Challenge Cup
Women's Varsity win Challenge Cup race over UCSB.
Men's varsity 8, while not winning a cup, got this win over Arizona State and two other close races.
Men's First Novice Eight
First Novice Eight
Women's 2nd varsity battling to the finish with UCSB.
In early March, UCI again hosted the California Challenge Cup.
More than a dozen different men's and half a dozen different women's teams brought two crews each for a series of 1400 meter Henley style match races.
The racing was exciting and close. IRA champion Cal brought their 4V and Novice crews which are equivalent crews to ACRA national champions (Americans instead of Internationals).
The UCI Leadership Academy is an ongoing effort to connect current students with alums and friends who can mentor and advise in their professions and/or avocations.
Students have shadowed alums in their jobs, been offered opportunities at internships and gotten help with networking and job applications.
It is a unique and special program.
I've set up a google form to see if it'll help connect alums with students. It's a simple form that populates a spreadsheet. Student and alum/friend fill out the same form, the results will populate in a spreadsheet that form users will have access to peruse.
The spreadsheet won't be public, but shared among us who use it.
